Abstract
As well as the rehabilitation of Speech headicapped is becoming so needy field in the social and medical society, it keeps its important position in the rehabilitation medicine.
During the period of June 1973 through May 1974, 94 hospitals in Japan were sent questionaires, and 52 hospitals replied. 14 among 52 learnt that they did not have speech clinic. The 14 questionaires begins with "When does your clinic begin?" and ends wtih "How your patient became to visit?¡±
The history of speech clinic started era of 1960, and 13 clinics among 38 are closely related with hospitals. 36.8% have hearing and speech activities, and yet 47.3% have merely speech clinics. Most of clinics, about 79%, have 2 staffs in the clinic, 64.5% of whom have special graduate training in the specified institution such as one in the National Center for Hearing and Speech disorders which was established on 1971 and produced 3 rd graduates.
Interesting points are that these staffs are supervised by non qualified person such as ENT doctors rather than the one who have had special education as is the United States.
This paper is dealing with the partial investigation of the Status of Hearing and Speech Clinic in Japan, though, which could tell us directions of our way to go in establishing special program of speech pathology in this country.
